Collection/1800s

Four women in summer dresses in a sunny garden. Monet’s companion Camille posed for most of them. He painted it outdoors and dug a trench so he could lower the tall canvas and reach the top.
The Salon rejected it in 1867. His friend Frédéric Bazille, who had more money, bought it, partly to help Monet out.
