George Washington, aged 63, facing to the right in a black coat with a white jabot. Gilbert Stuart painted his first portrait of the president from life in 1795.

This version is named after Samuel Vaughan, who owned a similar one. Washington later sat for Stuart again, for the portraits that ended up on the dollar bill.
