Collection/1800s

In 1888 Van Gogh rented the right wing of a yellow house on a square in Arles and dreamed of turning it into a home for a community of artists. Paul Gauguin came to stay that autumn.
Van Gogh painted it under a deep blue sky, with the restaurant where he ate next door. The house was damaged by bombing in 1944 and later torn down.
