The Wedding at Cana by Paolo Veronese

The Bible tells how Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding feast. Veronese turned it into a giant Venetian banquet with over 130 figures, musicians, servants, dogs and a cat. It is the largest painting in the Louvre.

Napoleon’s troops took it from a monastery in Venice in 1797, and it never went back. Today it hangs opposite the Mona Lisa, so most visitors see it only over their shoulders.
