The Surrender of Breda by Diego Velázquez

In 1625 the Dutch city of Breda surrendered to the Spanish after a long siege. The Dutch commander Justin of Nassau hands the keys to the Spanish general Ambrogio Spinola, who stops him from kneeling.

The Spanish call it Las Lanzas, after the forest of lances on the right. Velázquez may have painted himself in the far right corner, in a big hat.
