Collection/1800s

A dancer in a white tutu bows on the stage in the glare of the footlights. In the wings, half hidden, stands a man in a black suit, watching her.
He was probably one of the wealthy subscribers who had access backstage and often supported young dancers. Degas drew it in pastel around 1876–77, over a monotype print.
