The Painter's Studio by Gustave Courbet

Courbet sits at his easel painting a landscape, with a nude model behind him and a small boy watching. On the right stand his friends and supporters, including the poet Baudelaire, reading. On the left are figures from society at large.

He called it “a real allegory.” When the 1855 World’s Fair rejected it, Courbet built his own pavilion next door and exhibited it there himself.
