The Musicians by Caravaggio

Four boys in loose white shirts prepare to play: one tunes a lute, one studies a score, one holds a horn. At the left, a winged Cupid reaches for grapes. Caravaggio painted it in Rome around 1595 for his patron, Cardinal del Monte.

The boy looking out at us from behind may be Caravaggio himself. The painting was lost for centuries and was found in England before the Met bought it in 1952.
