Saint George and the Dragon by Raphael

Saint George on a white horse drives his lance into a dragon while the princess prays nearby. Raphael painted it around 1506, when he was in his early twenties.

On George’s leg you can read the word HONI: it is the garter of the English Order of the Garter. The painting was probably a gift for King Henry VII of England.
