Rouen Cathedral by Claude Monet

The facade of Rouen Cathedral, in bright sunlight, dissolves into a crust of thick paint. In 1892 and 1893 Monet rented rooms opposite the cathedral and painted it more than thirty times.

He worked on many canvases at once, changing them as the light moved across the stone. This one shows the portal and the Saint-Romain tower in full sun.
