Irises by Vincent van Gogh

Van Gogh painted it in his first week at the asylum in Saint-Rémy in May 1889, from the garden. He called painting “the lightning conductor for my illness”.

Look for the single white iris on the left among the purple ones. The blues have changed since 1889: some of the pigments he used have faded, and the flowers were once more violet.
