Christ's Entry into Brussels in 1889 by James Ensor

A huge, chaotic parade of grinning masks, skeletons, politicians and bands fills the street, with banners and flags. Christ on a donkey is a tiny figure lost in the crowd.

James Ensor painted it in 1888 on a canvas over four meters wide. It was too radical to exhibit, and it stayed in his studio for decades.
