Boating by Édouard Manet

A man in a straw hat steers a sailboat while a woman sits beside him. The blue water fills the whole background, with no horizon at all.

Manet painted it in 1874 while staying with Monet at Argenteuil. The cut-off sail and the flat blue show the influence of Japanese prints.
